Principal’s Assistant School Security Technology (PASST) (RULETC)
The RULETC and JSC have developed a new advanced surveillance technology system, the PASST (Principal’s Assistant School Security Technology). The system allows personnel to remotely monitor and control security cameras using desktop computers and wireless handheld devices.
The Hazard High School, located next door to the RULETC facility in Hazard, KY, was chosen as a test bed based on the facility’s infrastructure and their willingness to participate as a national technology test bed. Additionally, interest has been expressed by the NLECTC-West to partner with RULETC and to place the system in and additional test bed in a school located just blocks from the NLECTC-West facility in El Segundo, CA.
The system allows personnel to remotely view live video, receive camera alarms, alerts and notifications, and adjust camera pan, zoom, tilt and focus over the Internet using desktop computers or Windows powered wireless handheld personal digital assistants (PDAs). The PASST system was designed for scalability so extra cameras can easily be incorporated by adding inexpensive Ethernet routers or hubs and all data can be retrieved over a secure wireless network.
