Crime Scene Investigation Procedural Anytime/Anywhere Learning (CSI PAAL)

Police officer using a PDA

Critical incidents in recent history have brought attention to the need for readily accessible information to those who must respond to these incidents. Since users need specific information, they should have access to portable technology that will walk them through procedures. This system, referred to as Procedural Anytime/Anywhere Learning (PAAL), has the potential of changing how traditional training and learning is viewed.

With funding from the National Institute of Justice (NIJ), Office of Science and Technology, the JSC is working with Sapien Systems, Inc. to introduce the PAAL system. The implications of this system are increased levels of efficiency, quality of work, safety, productivity, job satisfaction, and enhanced financial savings by the agencies employing this type of technology. CSI PAAL focuses on Crime Scene Investigations and is built off of the DNA Evidence Collection curriculum, which is currently distributed by the NIJ on two compact discs. The CSI PAAL package also includes an authoring system which allows users to input agency specific policies/procedures.
