Office for the New Economy – New Economy Safety and Security Initiative

The statewide New Economy Safety and Security Initiative has been institutionalized through the formation of the Public Safety and Security Institute for Technology (PSI TEC). The purpose of PSI TEC is to fund public safety and security technology transfer projects that add commercial value to recent interest in safety and security.
The Institute serves as a national leader for a proof-of-concept and prototype test bed for emerging technologies in the safety and security area; work to build new businesses and strengthen existing businesses; create jobs through technology transfer and technology assistance; retool the Kentucky workforce to provide them with necessary skill sets; and attract safety and security related businesses.
Although it is physically located on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University, the PSI TEC, through its partnerships, is distributed throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky. These partnerships include the following consortium member institutions: University of Louisville's Center for the Deterrence of BioWarfare and BioTerrorism and the Information Technology Resource Center, University of Kentucky's Visualization Center and the Livestock Disease Diagnostic Center, and the United States Army Armor Center in Fort Knox, Kentucky.
