Law Enforcement Technology Program (LETP) – Information Fusion Center

An extremely powerful and important opportunity associated with the Law Enforcement Technology Program derives from the fact that 110 agencies in 42 Kentucky counties are being supplied with the same police records management software. This situation creates the opportunity for regional crime analysis and crime mapping. This is a very powerful opportunity because of the small town and rural nature of southern and eastern Kentucky. Further, no more than ten of the 110 law enforcement agencies involved in this project are likely to have either the volume of crime or the analytical expertise to take advantage of computerized analysis and mapping on their own.

A three year partnership between the Center for Rural Development (CRD), the Kentucky State Police (KSP), the JSC, and Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) was developed to operate a system of regional crime analysis and crime mapping. The JSC and EKU provided the expertise and the labor necessary to create such a system. The KSP and the CRD helped the JSC and EKU obtain the necessary cooperation from the region’s 110 law enforcement agencies to establish the system. The system produced information and report to the participating agencies, which will either prove the value of the effort or not.
