Emergency Response to Terrorism (ERT) Distributed Learning

Prior to the tragic events of September 11, 2001, efforts were already being taken to prepare police, fire, and emergency medical personnel as first responders to incidents involving weapons of mass destruction.

The RULETC and the JSC, in collaboration with the Louisiana State University Academy for Counter-Terrorist Education (LSU-ACE), developed both computer-based training CD's and a web-based training program to facilitate and expedite the training of first responders. Using LSU-ACE's curriculum, these personnel learned the proper techniques and procedures for dealing with LSU-ACE Logoincidents involving chemical, biological, and nuclear (including radiological) weapons as well as conventional weapons causing casualties on a mass scale.

Emphasis was put on responder awareness to identify these situations, and subsequently, on response and mitigation. A learning management system was also integrated to allow testing and documentation.
