Kentucky Community Critical Infrastructure Protection Laboratory (KyCIPLab)

The mission of the Kentucky Community Critical Infrastructure Protection Laboratory (KyCIPLab) is to organize and marshal the extensive knowledge resources of Kentucky’s universities and colleges to pursue research and development projects that support the Department of Homeland security’s ability to protect community-based critical infrastructure. KyCIPLab designs solutions to terrorism threats, providing systematic capabilities not only to safeguard the critical infrastructure of the nation’s communities, but to recover from any terrorism incident that may occur. KyCIPLab cooperates with the Department of Homeland Security to provide tools and technologies that enhance awareness of community-based critical infrastructure, prevent terrorism strikes and to respond to any such incidents. KyCIPLab seeks to expand the spectrum of products and services keyed to the protection, preservation and restoration of community-based critical infrastructure in the face of terrorism threats.

The foundation of KyCIPLab is the Kentucky Homeland Security University Consortium: and organization comprised of the University of Kentucky, the University of Louisville, Eastern Kentucky University, Western Kentucky University, Northern Kentucky University, Morehead State University, Murray State University, Kentucky State University and the Kentucky Community & Technical College System. KyCIPLab was formed by a Kentucky-based, non-profit organization, The National Institute For Hometown Security. The Institute is governed by a board of directors whose members are civic and business leaders in Kentucky and on the national front. The Consortium contributes to the board’s operations through (1) a member selected by the Consortium who sits on the panel and through (2) a Consortium advisory panel that advises the non-profit’s board.

KyCIPLab emphasizes cooperative and collaborative research and development projects among the members of the Consortium. KyCIPLab draws on the considerable expertise available through each member institution and coordinates these development assets to produce solutions to specific needs.
